We are a Charity and unlike a business, we do not exist to make a profit. However, we must make every effort to balance the books. We provide services to the local community and any charges that are made to clients are subsidised by Vine Community Trust.
It costs in the region of £275,000 per year to run Marlow House, roughly 80% of which we raise ourselves with help from staff, volunteers and other charities, to whom we apply for funds when necessary.
Covid hit us badly, like so many other businesses but we are pulling back - slowly. This is only made possible by our amazingly loyal staff and volunteers. We spend 99% of our income on our charitable activities. Given we more or less broke even over the last two years, we now face rising costs through inflation, which will increase our running costs. This presents a big challenge to our fundraising effort.
On the income side, we run a monthly 300 Club draw, very popular monthly coffee mornings and luckily have "Friends of Marlow House" who commit to monthly payments to support us. We have a spacious first floor function room with a lift access, fully fitted kitchen and full toilet facilities. We offer the room for hire for social gatherings - parties, wakes, meetings etc, and to regular groups and clubs to hold their weekly or monthly meetings.
We also work hard promoting Marlow House and fundraising at our regular quiz and supper nights, annual stalls at Desborough's 1940's Day and Christmas Gala Night, plus lots more including our annual golf day which last year raise a significant amount of over £4,000.
