It’s been quite some time since the last epistle! Whilst Marlow House had to close again for the third lockdown, we are now open and able to bring in up to 13 clients per day. What a difference it’s making to the lives of everyone involved! Even though they can’t sit next to each other, we all know how stimulating it is to be with company and conversations. As with the rest of the world, we’re looking forward to getting back to a more normal life. I am sure, like me, all regulars are missing coffee mornings, catching up with friends and gossip. Aside from the important social aspect, the loss of income is impacting massively as indeed with any fundraising events e.g., quizzes – we’re all agog for the next one Geoff!
Fortunately, the 300 Club has remained unaffected and as mentioned previously the website is updated monthly. The last draw took place on Thursday 1st April (Friday being Good Friday). It was drawn by M O’Rourke, verified by S Marshall and produced the following winners for March:
P Bates number 285 winning £38
M Cowley number 105 winning £28
M Lowe number 278 winning £18
The next draw will take place on Friday 7th May.
A big thank you to those winners who, during the year, were in a position to donate their winnings back to Marlow House, it’s very much appreciated. We still have numbers available, it’s never too late to buy!
On the subject of thank you’s I must acknowledge Doreen who has donated a huge number of jigsaws, raising money and bringing a lot of pleasure to many people. Cheers m’dear!
Great Bear (warehouse & distribution) employees and charity champions Jo and Lesley have been working like mad to raise funds for Marlow House! Organising raffles, sales, dress down days etc., to raise money, they went a big step further and presented the office with 72 Easter boxes to be given out to clients. Photos are now on the website. VPK (previously Rigid Containers) donated the boxes and Jo and Lesley bought all sorts of goodies to fill them, using money they had raised at work. I delivered some of the Desborough ones and it was an absolute treat to see the reactions of the recipients.
RECYCLE AND RAISE ROUBLES! (I love alliteration!)
Jo at Great Bear is crazy about recycling and she has a way of making money for Marlow House whilst doing so – double whammy!
The poster below shows the details, some are brand specific or part productspecific, but if you or someone you know uses any of these items regularly, they’ll all add up. The last poster shows everything at a glance but not all the details. This collection is household waste only, not commercial. The most commonly used are disposable gloves, cheese wrappers, laundry packaging, toothpaste/brush items. Pringle and Ferrero lover’s alert!
I’ve put an old KBC small blue bin on the drive of my house (in front of the conservatory to the left of the bay window) you can drop stuff in it anytime and I’ll pass it on to Jo when there’s a decent amount. I’m opposite Glenkindie at 16 Harborough Road, Desborough. You could also ask your families and neighbours (cleaners and carers too) to help us please. Everything sent off is paid by weight, so the more of us involved the better. Jo has a facebook recycling page https://www.facebook.com/recycleforcharitydesborough/ which has a link to a brilliant YouTube video regarding the next life of a cheese wrapper!
Keep safe and well, kind regards,
