Hello everyone and a belated happy new year to you and yours!
Time really has flown since the last newsletter as suddenly (it seems) coffee morning is this coming Saturday. November raised a phenomenal £915.90 with nearly a quarter of that made during the month in pre-sales. This is much needed money for Marlow House, as like many other charities we are suffering funding cuts from local government and of course, running costs e.g. gas and electric have spiralled.
300 Club draw results are as follows:
November winners drawn by S Price & P Barnes on 1st December –
Number 18 winning £41
Number 273 winning £31
Number 1 winning £20
The numbers were verified by A Bewers and L Pegg
The one-off annual draw (which contains all numbers that have been paid for the whole 12 months) was also drawn by the above and verified by A Bewers. Number 286 was the very lucky winner of £119.15.
December winners from January’s draw by S Price and P Barnes are –
Number 203 winning £41
Number 24 winning £31
Number 56 winning £20
The next draw date is Friday 2nd February.
The Grand Winter Prize draw raised £1158.00 and once again Helen is the star selling £350 worth - BRAVO and thank you!!
The three days Christmas lunches in our function room were declared a success and described by diners as ‘delicious’ – Wayne our cook got resounding applause every day. Our grateful thanks to him, staff and volunteers for all the planning, prepping, cooking and inevitable washing up! 😊 Setting up and serving is all due to many volunteers and, this year, the Market Harborough Building Society arranged for three members of staff to help us on all three days. They were all brilliant, especially given they were out of their comfort zone (as one of them said to me) and worked really hard whilst looking as if they were enjoying themselves! From what they said they did enjoy it, and we’re really grateful to MHBS for offering person-power and for all their other help during 2023. www.marlowhouse.org is now updated with photos to view.
We also owe a big thank you to Wacoal, the lingerie factory in Desborough, their support over many years has been unwavering and in part, enables us to give gifts to clients e.g. Easter eggs/Christmas gifts and provide afternoon entertainment. The latter is very much enjoyed by clients, particularly the 1940’s singer, I believe.
Geoff is running the next quiz at Desborough Conservative Club on Tuesday 30th January in aid of Marlow House. Starting about 8p.m. it’s £1 per person entry. It’ll be another head scratcher but fun!!
One last item, if you are able to help or may know someone that might be interested in helping with heating and delivery of weekend meals on wheels. This can be more or less than once a month (your choice), and requires roughly two hours on the day. The easiest way to see what it involves would be to ‘shadow a team’ without commitment. As it is done in teams of two, a couple would be ideal, but we have some volunteers who mix and match to make teams so we can always find a partner to pair up with. Please phone the office 01536 762329 if interested.
Kind regards,
Lynda
